Road Season Starts In Murray, Ky

Sun and temperatures in the 40s greeted racers for the first road race of the 2010 season. Purdue was well represented with seventeen racers taking to the rolling 16 mile course. Some of the highlight Naveen John's 4th in Mens B, Will Vasquez's 13th in Mens A and Sarah Thomas' 7th in Women's B. The Boilermakers take the course tomorrow for the crit in downtown Murray.

The Fall Semester has finally come to a close and what a great couple of months it has been! The club has grown in numerous ways:
-new sponsors (SRAM, Saris, GU, Swiftwick...)
-new members
-more prestige

All of these are great things and hopefully our success this fall will carry on into the spring!

Look for information regarding the spring road schedule, our race weekend, and any new sponsors to be announced soon. If things go according to plan, our weekend will be the best regionals to date!

Purdue Cycling is proud to annouce that the team has inked a deal with SRAM! SRAM will be providing due paying members with great deals on components and groupsets. In return, the team will help spread the word about SRAM's World Bicycle Relief program- a great program that focuses on providing people in 3rd world nations ultility bicycles. These machines decrease the time it takes to get to fresh water and food and increases the amount that can be carried. Check out World Bicycle Relief for more info!

TT #3 Results

The cool temperature and stiff breeze did not stop everyone from coming out for the third time trial tonight. Prizes were awarded to the top three fastest men and women. If you did not collect your prize tonight Byron will have it for you at the next TT on October 21.

Cyclocross is in the air!

It's Fall...the road season has wrapped up along with the mountain bike season.

Will Vazquez pulled off a very nice 3rd place in the Men's individual standings and the team as a whole got 5th in the Div. 1 schools.

Now, its time to look forward to the next leg of the cycling season: cyclocross!

Your chance is coming quicker than you think- October 31 and Nov 1 is the Purdue Cyclocross weekend. 2 awesome events, especially the Halloween race that will take place out at Fort Ouiatenon and will have a USA Cycling race along with the collegiate categories. An 1840 purse accompanies this race along with sweet merchandise. Check it out:

The first race of the Fall Time Trial Series was held Wednesday. More people came out this week than participated in the entire series last year. Results can be downloaded in Excel (.xls) file format by clicking on the link below. If you were in the top 3 but did not receive your prize, Byron will have it for you at the next time trial. The next time trial will be held on September 23.

Chris Uberti takes home the V in Canada!

It's a big race in the Italian Village of Windsor, Ontario- with a character and flare that cannot be beat and over 50 years of history.

What race is it?
The Tour di Via Italia, or simply known as the Erie Street Criterium.

Purdue University was represented by Joey Iuliano and through proxy, as he races for the Panther/RGF presented by Felt Bicycles in the summer, Chris Uberti. Other notables in the field included Darco Fico, Daniele Defranceschi, Paul Martin, Kirk Albers, and last year's winner Ben Renkema.

The race did not start off particularly quick, however, after several laps the race was on. Joey was very attentive at the front and went with a few promising moves that were brought back after a few laps. With 60 KM to go in the 100 KM race, Panther rider Andy Moskel made a two man break and several laps later Chris joined with others in tow and Paul Martin made the jump across after that.

The breakaway quickly gained time on the field- which was being lackadaisical in it's chase effort until 12 to go when Darco Fico launched a valiant effort to bring the break back, however, no one was willing to assist. With that, the break, and the race, slipped up the road.

With one to go a the break was starting the fragment, Chris made it across to the split and his teammate Paul launched into a vicious lead out. In the most dominate display of sprinting prowess, Chris powered away after the last corner to seal the deal on the biggest win of his career.

Fall TT Series

The Fall TT Series is back in '09! Same course, but more prizes!

Dates are: Sept 9, 23; Oct. 7,21; Nov. 4

The usual Fast Wednesday ride will leave from the co-rec at 4:45 and head out to the start line on County Rd 350 W and Division Rd. First rider goes off at 5:30- so plenty of time for a warm up.

YOU MUST PAY YOUR CLUB DUES (30) IF YOU WANT TO RACE FOR FREE! Otherwise it is $10 for non member Purdue students/staff and $15 for everyone else, which covers the whole series.

Purdue Starts Mountain Season at At Butler University

This Past weekend members of the Purdue cycling traveled to Muscatatuck Park in North Vernon, IN for the first race of the 2009 season. the team was represented by Andrew Truemper, Aaron Ritter, Andy Ritter, Will Vasquez and Andy Shaw all racing the Men's A XC race. The race was slated for five 5.2 mile laps and had 22 starters. Purdue was led by Will Vasquez who finished 6th. Andy Shaw rolled in 13th after 2 flat tires took him out of the top ten and Aaron Ritter placed 15th. Andrew Truemper and Andy Ritter did not finish as they were preparing for a race the following day.

On Sunday Will Vasquez and Whitteny Kroll competed in the short track xc at Major Taylor Velodrome in Indianapolis,IN. Will fought through first lap traffic but the leaders were gone. He went on the finish 4th in the 30 minute race.

The team looks to improve on these results as they head to Ripon,Wisconsin with a bigger squad.

New Site

For those who have been to our site before, you'll notice that we did a complete revamp from the previous edition. Our goal with the new site was to make information about the club (be it routes, racing, clothing, etc) easy to find and access. We also wanted another way to disseminate information to club members- hence this blog.

So far the response to the new site has been very positive. We've received several messages about how sharp the site looks and how good the information is regarding different items. This is great! We love getting feed back on how we're doing- both good and bad. After all, we can't fix what is wrong if you don't tell us.

With that in mind, if you come upon a mistake, have a suggestion for a part of the site, or what more information to be written on a topic, please let us know! We want to make this site the best it can be!

BGR Success!

First of all- a huge thank you everyone who helped make the Cycling Club's presence felt at the BGR activities fair. Mike did an amazing job crafting a platform for the rollers and the others (Wil, Sarah, Will, Andy, and Naveen) did an excellent job talking to perspective members. We talked to over a hundred people and had 50+ sign up for our e-mail list- which is a record for the club!

This is a great sign for the club and everyone is super excited about future rides and races!

Welcome Back!

The 2009-2010 school year is shaping up to be a fantastic year of racing and riding! We'll be starting things off with our annual booth at the Boiler Gold Rush activities fair in the Amory on August 18 from 11-1. If you are interested in joining this would be a perfect chance to come and talk with current club members and get a feel for what the club is all about!

Following that school starts on Monday, August 24th with the first mountain bike race hosted by Butler University that weekend. Check the e-mail list and attend our first meeting on August 27th at 7 pm in ME 116 for more information on that.
